Exit Gate Maintenance Kit

The Osborne Survey™ Scale has been rapidly gaining widespread acceptance, owing to its use in the Weight Watcher™ System for growth management and market sorting.

Initially designed for management of pens with a maximum of 500 grow-finish pigs, users of the Survey Scale have proven that it is capable of managing up to 600 head and occasionally even more animals.

This high rate of utility was not initially anticipated in the design of the Survey Scale.  Wear at entrance gate pivots points was much more rapid under this high rate of use than expected, especially for larger pens of pigs.  An improved pivot design was created and the Entrance Gate Bushing Kit, Catalog No. KS-SS0133, enables renewal of these entrance gate pivot points.  This pivot design employs replaceable Delrin bushings and has been implemented on all new Survey Scales.

An improved design for the Exit Gate pivot points has also been implemented.  An Exit Gate Bushing Kit has been created for Model SS100 and SS110 Survey Scales, Catalog No. KS-SS0134, and for Model SS120 Scales, Catalog No. KS-SS0190.  The KS-SS0134 and KS-SS0190 Kits include new cylinder mounts (2), cylinder pivot tees (2) and all of the fasteners, bearings, and bushings needed for the renovation of the exit gate pivot points and a step-by-step Installation guide.  Both of these kits convert the original exit gate pivots with Delrin bearings that are wear resistant, but easily renewed when they do wear out.  One kit is required for each Survey Scale.

We strongly recommend that Survey Scale users inspect their exit gates closely for wear.  Excessive wear is revealed by excessive “play” and a loose or wobbly pivot point for the exit gate.  If this wear is allowed to progress too far, then the only solution is the total replacement of the gate itself.  If this wear is interrupted by installation of the Exit Gate Kit, extended service can be expected from the gate, even under high utility conditions.
